Yes there is a hardware mod that needs to be done to get the TX range up into the 155 range. I believe it is the removal of a transistor. This may be old news, but I recently visited NYPD and received a tour of One Police Plaza, ESU, and a few other NYPD locations. They are using some Vertex radios, both mobiles and portables. Only to 146

I can only get mine down to 146mhz. I don't know if there are any tricks beyond this. I have both the 424 and 414. Great radios. Pair them with the cimmaron MDC1200 board and you have a Motorola killer.
