Re: Relm MPV32 Speaker Problem

I have an MPV32 that has suddenly developed a speaker problem. Even at full knob volume, the audio is muffled and distorted. The audio does sound fine when an external speaker is connected. Is this a common problem with the MPV32? Is it worth fixing? Thanks I don't know anything about the MPV32s, b...

Do you know for sure that the radio is just displaying the wrong channel, or is it actually operating on the wrong channel? I have seen the channel switches go bad, before, and send incorrect BCD info to the microprocessor, causing the radio to be on the wrong channel, compared to what the switch sa...

B/K EPH narrow band programming

I just wanted to pass along something that I recently learned from the folks at B/K, and also from Bill here: If you have one of the early EPH Flex Mode radios, you may not be able to program it for narrow band operation from the keypad. The easiest way to tell is to go into the programming mode. If...

Re: No but I do have some BK HT carrying cases for sale

Bendix King is just not a well known brand in my area. I guess they are supposed to be pretty good, just nobody ever pushed them here. I bought a lot of 15 HT cases on ebay to get the one I wanted. Included were some new BK's I intend to resell. But that is my total involvement with Bendix King Tel...

Steve, We have been using the 16 channel version of that radio, the RPV516A, in our logging operations, for almost six months now. They have worked very well for us. I would say it depends on what your customers are going to use them for. I would not recommend them for Public Safety applications. Ho...

I wonder if it renders the radio inoperable, when it's owner drops it and runs?

Re: B/K Narrow band programming.......

kmoose, If I understand, you are impling that you have installed the newer MP in an attempt to make a wide band radio into a narrow band/ wide band capable transceiver. Am I close? If so, the early versions of the EPH do not have the "Flex Mode" capability, meaning it switches to narrowba...

B/K Narrow band programming.......

Ok........just so everyone knows what I am asking......... On the EPH series B/K portables, some radios are FlexMode radios, which means that they can be programmed either narrow band, or wideband, per channel. Apparently, if you have a keypad board installed, you need to have the newer microprocess...

Thanks. I found out that the radios that I was trying to identify are amateur band radios. Someone wanted to know why this Canadian logging outfit, that we lease helicopters to, was using a $150 radio, and why couldn't we use the same ones? Guess the rules in Canada must be different.

Anyone know what model Icom radios come in for under $200? Anything under $150?

Yeah, Relm sometimes is slow to deliver accessories. I would like to see them keep more stuff in stock, but I have to assume they have a good reason for not doing so. I've met the RPV product manager, a guy named Ken Klyberg. He's a good guy, who seems to really care about his customers' needs. But ...

Redbird, What are you hearing about the RPVs? From the feedback I have gotten, it sounds like our loggers really like them. They say they are getting excellent range with them, and the audio is ok, too. (Well, as good as the audio can be, with a tandem rotor helicopter hovering 300 ft. above you)

Sorry, Redbird. I just noticed, from your other posts, that you seem to have already purchased them. I think they are probably pretty good radios. Will be interested to hear how they work for you. We just bought six of them, to outfit a crew of timber fallers. I'm curious to see how well they hold u...

Redbird, The RPV series is what Relm calls a "B&I", or Business and Industrial Radio. I can't tell you how much you have to rely on your comms, for the safety of your firefighters, but you might want to look at the new "Relm/BK" line of radios that Relm is offering........*lo...
