Re: They are about 2 years old

I was told the average life wold be about 2 years, which meand 1-4 for some unknown reason. Interesting about them going at once. Regarding their lifespan, it all depends upon the individual cells' conditions, how many times and how they are recharged, temperature of the cells when being charged......

The TK3180 is also a damn good portable. Excellent Rx and Tx performance, great features, the s/w is Windows based, easy to understand and navigate, and it won't cost you a left nut of sign a contract like with Motorola. Vertex we stay away from because of the service and .... honestly their stuff j...

It's definitely possible you DID get a bad batch. My buddy's EMS crew all got new batteries and all but two were bad. They sent them back to the manufacturer for replacements. How old at the batteries? I'd send them back if they're less than 2-3 months old.

There should be a help section/link of some kind towards the top.....? Under that there may be a "General Help" or "About Kpg56" or something like that that might tell you the version of the s/w you have.

Is that supposed to run on Windows? If it's DOS then don't use a DOS window within Windows. You need to boot to DOS, like DOS v6.22. Go to http://www.bootdisk.com and d/l the DOS bootdisk image. Then create a bootable floppy, copy over the program to the DOS boot disk, boot from that, then run the p...

I hear you. I had the same problem with some 8180 mobiles that were newer than the s/w version I licensed/bought from the Kenwood dealer. I called tech support and they emailed me the latest version. Now THAT'S support. I'm no longer a Motorola guy, and Vertex just feels like modifed Yeasu gear to m...

If you legally obtained the s/w then call back Vertex and nicely ask them to email you the latest version of the s/w. You might have to provide them with your serial #. Tell them your s/w is out of date and you have a current model radio that needs to be programmed.

Have you tried another adapter? You simply might have a bad one. It happens. I'm surprised your only port is 4. Do you have a modem in this same computer? Is it using port 2? You may have a conflict there.

We used the stubby but moved to the kra27 whip. For some reason when you've got a stubby on the radio users just love to handle the radio by it. Until it breaks.

Copied from elsewhere.... Hold the "A" key for 2-3 seconds while turning on the radio. On the alpha-numeric head it will say PROGRAM after releasing the "A" key. On the non-alpha head the display will have a pair of dashes [- -] . You should now be able to read and write to the r...

I've never heard of it. The only cable Kenwood supplies for programming tje TK-7180/8180 is the KPG-46, which has an RJ-45 connector that goes into the radio's mic port on the control head.

My buddy damaged his TK-3180's battery by leaving it in its charger overnight. I know his battery's useable time is now considerably less than it was.
