I said I was a bit of a noob. This is incorrect. I am a total zeroid. "NO PROGRAM" is an indication that the radio doesn't have any channels programmed. So... If you load any code plug into the radio that error message goes away.
Duh! Sorry to waste peoples time.

Re: Putting 5300 into Code Update Mode
Sorry I think I finally see the problem. The radios that don't upgrade with the Hex files that worked are all the unrevised -410 logic boards which require different files then the -8xx boards that I've had success with.
Does anyone have any of the old old -4xx firmware?
Thanks - Jay

Re: Putting 5300 into Code Update Mode
Well after getting some help I've had success updating some version 1.10.x radios to 1.32.7 using some .hex files I paid for using pcconfig 1.28.8 and the Write Application Code command. Its a two step process where I load one set of loader and code files using the password huskers then a different ...

5100 BLANK NO PROGRAM
I refurb old EF johnsons (Clean, test, repair, tune) and have some ver 1 5100's I've been looking at them and one has this odd problem where is comes up really slow and after self test reports BLANK. Then after a short time it says NO PROGRAM. Now, I'm still a bit of a noob but I think this is that ...

Re: P25 Slow Squelch
One of the field service notes talked about the firmware being for the express purpose of speeding something up so the squelch would open a bit faster. Depending on the Series and Version I notice a slight delay in P25 but I don't think I've seen it chop off the first word. Which maybe due to me wai...

Re: EFJ 4-series / issues
Its just a guess but being microphonic sounds like an iffy soldering connection. If you have a microscope it might be worth looking at the PCBs and seeing if anything looks unsoldered or cracked. Its always nice to have some known good boards you can swap to localize the issue.

Re: 5100 Alignment
If you (or anyone else) wants a tune up on one of the Legacy 5100 53xx radios send me an email. I work cheap (I'm just a semi retired dude doing this from the spare room) I've done a lot of these radios and I've never seen a radio that didn't operate a lot better after being tweaked up. One thing on...

Trade 5300 Programer for HC08 11.11 Boot, DSP Firmware?
I'm in the middle of fixing 4 oldie REV 3 logic boards and I've got a couple that beep on power up telling me that the CPU is working. Then nothing. I can read version info and I see that File Fmt Version = 0.0 DSP Software Version = 0.0 HC08 Software Version = 11.11 I've got nothing for these origi...

Re: repeated beeping on older 5317
oops. I mispoke, It is a hc08 cpu firmware version 11.11 I've got several logic boards that don't have any file fmt 0.0 or dsp 0.0 loaded. These beep once which is the HC08 coming up but with nothing loaded to boot the dsp it stops there. Does anyone have deep in their old hard disc boot, firmware, ...

repeated beeping on older 5317
I'm trying to repair an old Version 1 radio (With the HC 11 processor) When I power it up I get a constant beep beep beep. If I switch to firmware update mode and power up the rate of the beeping slows down. The display never gets past the version number for the display. Anyone seen this or have som...

Re: Putting 5300 into Code Update Mode
Is there a source for code files for updating an old version 1 radio from 1.10.0 to a later version? I have the .hex loader file but none of the .out files - thanks in advance for any direction you can give me.

53xx Logic board swaping. cycle powr error.
This is a puzzle. I seem to have created a second radio with the cycle powr error. I took a working 800 Mhz radio and removed the logic board plopped it into a 5317 that had a dead logic board and it gave me the error message. I used tune to turn it into a VHF board and it gave me the error about ha...

Re: 5100 Series Board Swap Question
I know this is a really old thread but I wonder if anyone knows the answer to this. What boards if any can you swap. I know you can use tune to change the band and Obviously the RF board has to be changed but is either the front panel or the bottom logic board "universal" ? I finally printed out the...

Tune Rev 3 that doesn't crash.
I've been using tune version 2 (and 1 on the old old radios) and have no problems. I'm getting more version 4 and 6 radios and have tried to use Tune ver 3. It loads and will do one thing (Such as Transmitter output) then it crashes everytime. I'm using an old laptop with Windoze XP. Any ideas? Or v...

Re: High Power VHF 5300 136-146 band
I believe you run tune read all the parameters. (Save them) then select band and instead of VHF High or VHF Low you select VHF. I don't expect it will work perfectly at the band edges but in my one experiment it worked fine. I don't have the tools password either but it seems like they do a lot of w...
