Re: Ancient 5100 questions!

could you give me some key words to search for the most newest flash for this, and the name of the software that does it? Also, I am having problems loading a key into it. I am using a motorola KVL, and a modified motorola cable. It seems to load ok, but then when I cycle the radio, and then switch ...

Re: Problem with Ef Johnson 5300

Is there a battery that preserves the internal clock? If that isn't it, you may need to look inside to see if there is a cold solder joint or a failing capacitor. Is there a service manual or a one sheet that describes this as a common problem you could search for? Just throwing out ideas; I don't k...

Kenwood Protalk firmware issues

Hi! Didn't want to hijack the other thread. Have a pair of Protalk UHF radios, I tried to force one into being a LMR version using engineering software. All it does is blink red now and the PTT baaaaahs me when I push it. Putting the Protalk firmware back in doesn't clear it. The service manual does...

Re: Kenwood TK-2200 Field Programming

I'm going through this right now. I'm sure you know this, but always read the radio first, and save that file. If it self-identifies as a LMR type, that's a normal radio. You cannot keypad program it; that's an FCC thing. If it self-identifies as a Protalk, then there is a permanent table in the rad...

Re: Ancient 5100 questions!

I don't think it was a demo. I managed to source the PCC, and was able to read and program the radio! It has AES and DES-OFB in it, as well as P25. I tried to load a DES and an AES key into it. The keyjammer peeped and said OK!, but when the radio cycled, and came back up, I went to an analog mode c...

Re: Ancient 5100 questions!

Under the battery is just a paper sticker.

I am betting its' the AN/PRC-127EFJ version though.

What does a firmware uplift get me?

By the way, thank you for consistently responding. I've lurked here over the years, and you really have been a HUGE asset to the community.

Ancient 5100 questions!

Hi! I recently got this radio, and would like to do something with it. I know for sure it is an EFJ-5100. Also sure it is a VHF model. Sticker says p/n 242-5117. On power up, it says v 2.4.6 . Can this be firmware uplifted by me? What PC-Configure do I need? Is there a way similar to moto that I can...
