I had the same problem, trying to turn the radio down to 2 watts. No go. The lowest I could go safely is 5 watts knowing the radio will transmit.

Kenwood 3140 Low Battery Alert

A friend of mine dropped his 3140 handheld the other day, and now no matter what fully charged battery we put on his radio, the low battery alert activates and then resets the radio like you are turning it on. Has this happened to anybody else, or does anybody have any ideas before I start taking it...

Not sure if this will help you, but when I installed the scramblers on my 880, I had to remove 2 zero ohm resistors. They are used for the mic and receive audio. Without have a radio manual for your radio, I don't know if this is the same thing.

I've had good luck using 10 - 15 minutes. I usuall verify them with the blank command before trying to write them.
