You'll need to find out what frequencies are assigned to what repeater numbers in order to make a radio that will "follow" the group. Repeaters are numbered from 1 thru 20 (they can be in sequence, but, usually skip numbers) (unless there are 20 channels in the system) Example for 5 chan s...

There is a vehicular charger adapter available: Part # KVC-4 This allows the KSC-24 charger to be installed in a vehicle and plugged into the "aux-power" outlet.

No provision for RF power or audio amplification.

Happy Holidays!

Most likely, you'll need to get these items through a dealer, but you might find them on Ebay. To give you an idea of the "vintage" of the radio, they had programming accessories for the C-64 computer! The RPI Box p/n 023-5800-000 New # 023-5810-000 Box to radio cable p/n 023-5800-011 Prog...

The 8600 was the workhorse radio of the Johnson LTR customer for quite a few years. I would dare to say that it was one of the best radios built by EFJ. Unfortunately, because the radio will only do repeater work, (NO Talk Around) the market for used gear is limited to say the least. I have a storge...

Although I don't know the pin functions there are only three wires used in the adapter. On the DB-9 side: 1, 3, & 4 On the RJ-45 side: 7, 6, & 5 respectively The RJ45 pins are determined by "looking" into the socket with the pins down, and counting from the left. A standard EFJ mob...

I looked through the manual and the software and couldn't find anything that addressed a sidetone.
Usually, FleetSync is sent during or in place of a "normal" voice transmission, and shouldn't cause problems.
I'll check on Kenwood's site and see if anything is there.

Later,

Call 'em again. Ever since they moved their operations to TX, I've had problems with orders getting lost and delays in delivery as well.

I'm guessing that you are using the correct software?

EFJ P/N 023-9998-414 "personality programming software"
023-9998-432 "flash programming software"
023-9998-416 "radio tuning software"

Hope this helps

There's a new RPI that has to be used with the new series radios. EFJ Part # 023-9800-000 It's backward compatible to the 86xx and Challenger series. I know of no way to make the radio work on the old box. Good luck. EDIT: Hmmm, after closer examination of the service manual, it says that "To p...

Have you measured the sensitivity of the radio? If so, is it meeting the specs? If so, is it possible that you could do a "side by side" comparison of a radio that "works" in the area in question with the "non-working" radio? Try a different antenna. After doing these t...

What are you looking for? Mobile, handheld, or repeater equipment? We (the shop I work for) have a large qty of 8600 mobiles(LTR only I believe) We also have some 8615 mobiles (These are also LTR, I don't think the software will change them) We also have four working 800 repeaters (2000 series) with...

The radio requires the EFJ software, RPI (Radio Programming Interface) and the programming cable. If you don't want to spend the money on the items needed to do your own programming, see if there is a dealer in your area. BTW, depending on how far away the radio is from what you want to put it on, i...

Tessco carries the Shure "Modulink" series mics and cables. I'm confident that they have a cable set for Kenwood. The mics are not small, but they are pretty comfortable.

Hope this helps.
