Re: Kenwood TK-630H Power Adjustment

I don't know the answer to your question.

But if you want 60 watts *or so* why not set the channel to low power which is about 50 watts IIRC?

TK-5710 Programming Inserting Personality in Existing Zone

Folks,

I am adding some channels to an existing 5710 program between other channels.

In the Zone/Channel Parameters window, I have not been able to figure any way to add a personality in between two existing ones. The only way seems to be to add it down at the end.

Is there a way to do this?

Re: 90 series out of band yet?

I've seen it done, don't remember how but if I remember I can tell you when I get to work.

I came across some instructions to put a slug (we used 12ga solid copper wire about as long as it was big around) in the inductors of the VCO but that did not seem to help, it was too unstable glued in there on a vehicle that bounces around and we discovered it was not necessary, it could be done by...

What we did is to go into the data file, program all the freqs that you want to be in the ham band say you wanted 52.72 MC, well program it in the program as 42.72. Then open up the data (.DAT) file with a hex editor and you will find the freqs stored in there in a strange format, it is like 072 042...

Open them up, if you are the least bit familiar with radios take the cover off the final amplifier and it should be obvious which is high and which is low, otherwise there are probably other ways to tell. I can help if you need more info.

For what it's worth: A radio CAN be made to transmit 2 or 3 or 10 different PL tones if that's what you need. Most commonly done with repeaters for obvious reasons. With modern repeaters it's all done with software programming. Older repeaters you just installed one PL encode board per tone required...

A Source For Different Switch Function Decals?

I am wondering if there is a source for the decal (inlay) that can put the "TA" (or "RPT/DIR") labelling on the right hand switch. Since I do not use the PRI function. I tried cutting out the "TA" part of another inlay but it does not stick real well.

If I remember correctly some of the Kenwoods come with lousy antennas, while the BKs are known to have good antennas, even the short ones. Most of the Kenwoods I have tested have really excellent receivers but a bad antenna does you no good. However I do prefer BK portables myself too. Not only are ...

Yeah I called the office and they said it was indeed more expensive than most of them so I guess that's what it is.

A good dealer will let you try out his programming cable to see if it is the problem and then sell you a new one for a reasonable cost ($60-80 IIRC) if you want one.

I'm pretty sure I have used the 6-pin cable on both the -80 and -180 series radios in trunking mode.

Is it a known good programming cable? I had a cable for a TK-790 fail, but slowly. Some radios it would reprogram, others it would not, others after a number of retries, until it finally quit altogether. So I would see if you could scare up a different cable and try it on the same radio.
