The TK-730 HG uses the same KPG7D software. You will need to select the model number or wide/narrow under "model setup" when you write the personality. Under "Model Setup," it will ask you for bandsplit, model, and number of channels. Some early versions of KPG7D didn't include t...

Besides the test mode, most of the later Kenwood FPU versions allow you to set "squelch level" under optional features. There's s two-tiered squelch adjustment. The adjustment under the test mode is made during alignment, and then the user selects a squelch level (from 1 to 16) under Optio...

I've noticed this on TK-3173's too. The radio will still TX for several hours after the battery indicator reads empty. The radio alignment instructions include an adjustment for the battery terminal voltage.

V 1.00 is ancient. If you can read and write to a very early serial number but not a later one, it's probably a software limitation. I don't know what the latest DOS revision is, but it's well over 2.0 (and might even be up to 3.0). There is also a windows version available which has been out for a ...

46 was the last flashcode available for the Orion. 44 is probably fine...usually the difference between flashcodes was to fix some very obscure EDACS problem. Probably a good idea to have the same flash code in each radio, though. If you're going to reflash, don't forget to save your feature encrypt...

Can you reprogram it so the talkgroups are on the up/down keys and the systems are on the knob?

That would at least tell you if it's a programming issue or whether you have a bad channel switch.

I believe the version 1 will do basic Fleetsync. I know version 1 will not do "extended fleetsync" which includes short text messaging, status messaging, GPS, etc.

The last flash available for version 1 is E4B3.

It's a hardware adjustment. There's a pot on the top board (if I remember right, it's back and to the left a bit). It is marked SQ or squelch.

For some reason, the squelch control on the 30 series never seemed to have much range and even tightened all the way up they usually open at .2 uV.

Well, almost all of the speaker mics use a cheap little electret mic element and quite often those go bad.

If the radio won't even PTT, it's probably a bad mic cord.

The TK-2140 reset sounds like a battery issue.

Check your programming on the TK-2180 (if possible). I'm thinking you might have to enable the radio to have a speaker mic.

But is it a violation of the rules to ask where to buy legitimate copies of software? I was under the impression he was asking for a Kenwood dealer that would sell him a legitimately licensed copy. As far as I know, Kenwood USA doesn't explicitly prohibit selling software to individual users, provid...

There are two possible problems: First, there are two versions of this radio..a version 1 radio and a version 2.0 radio. Take the battery off and check the model nameplate. If it is a version 2.0, it will say "Ver 2.0." If not, than it's a version 1 radio. Kenwood changed the microprocesso...

It's usually listed under "Optional Signalling Decode Condition." It should either be under either "Zone Edit" or "Group Edit." I don't have the TK-2170 programming software in front of me, so I can't tell you exactly where it is in this particular program. If you poke ...
