wideband antenna construction question
This is probably way off topic, but would it be possible to buy a wideband rf amp off of ebay and connect it to an antenna that resembles a stove pipe except smaller so that it would have a broader bandwidth than a whip? if so what diameter and length of pipe? Would this just cause severe overload? ...

is the ICOM IC208H a scanner for the air bands?
How well does the IC 208H receive on the extended frequencies? Would it make a good scanner? What is the sensitivity on the UHF military air band.

Yes it looks very much like a spectrum analyzer, make friends with a radio tech and ask what some of that expensive equipment is used for. No radio is perfectly aligned and it really shows, modulation characteristics are different for each radio, and some radios use different methods to acheive this...
