You need the KPG-4 cable and KPG-7D software. The low split goes down too 29.700mHz but the SP tune option in the software allows direct entry of freqs down to 29.000mHz. the basic comes with 32 channels with expansion eprom 99 channels. Monogram display
If you're talking about the maxon 4000 series with the flourescent display there is a high voltage inverter circuit on the audio/logic to supply the high voltage for the display. I had one where the miniture transformer in the supply circuit went bad.

Yes and No. The 900 series with factory firmware has to be programmed with the notorious GE suitcase programmer or the Niles programmer. The Niles software has been released for free use (they no longer suppoert the programmer) and if you have an eeprom programmer that will do the Xicor X2816 eeprom...
