Brian,
Try grounding the mic hang up clips. Later model Kenwoods provide a ground and a mic hang up signal through the mic cable, but on the X30 series, the clip needs to be grounded.

Look at the McKay headset adapters at http://www.tessco.com. SKU number is 461974. I think this will do what you are trying to do.

TK730 dual head audio problem
Greetings! I have a TK730 dual head radio-audio to head 1 works fine; head 2 has no audio. I switched heads 1 and 2 around, and have audio on the previously "dead" head, which leads me to believe the problem is in the KRK3-DH. Anybody had this problem or possibly steer me in the right dire...
