Not worth it.
Too many mods required starting with the VCO. One wrong/bad part and it becomes un-fixable, unless youy have an entire development lab at your disposal.
There is no "kit"
I am an expert on this radio and I would not try it.
Swap for an A version, or buy another radio.

Re: 70-3400BD Repeater narrowband questions
Obviously by installing the kit and changing deviation to spec it would be fine. By the book....hmmm... The BD series were offered when narrow banding was just being talked about so I can tell you there exists no positive proof from Midland that this unit was independently (key word here) tested wit...

Re: XTR VHF Rx sens
suspect q201 try first: inject signal via loose wire to various locations in front end see if no improvement on the input side of q201 try second: carefully slacken screws around front end, may be bad feed through try third; wiggle components in front end using plastic tuning tool, if jumps/improves...

Re: 70-1340B mod pot ?
Mod control is done only via programmer.
Low/high power, frequency netting (on freq) done via programmer too.
Only the CTCSS is adjusted manually by removing the microprocessor cover and adjusting the pot o nthe tone board.
programmer can be PC based or the 70-1080 handheld.

Re: Midland 70-1340B
Install jumper on rear 9 pin connector between pins 5 and 6.
For external speaker, connect speaker to pins 4 and 6.
DO NOT ground any side of speaker; audio amp is balanced and damage will result, or speaker audio will cut in/out and be too low/distorted.

Re: 70-1340b user manual
Larry,
Advise what buttons the radio has. This affects its' operation.
Programming also affects a lot too. If you are a user with no access to programming sw then there is not much that can be done if you are not happy regarding its' operation.
