Simple answer, it was an earlier version of trunking from GE under the EDACS label. The radios can do conventional & trunking, but you'll need someone else to answer what the variations and limitations are.

There are narrowband kits available for some radios both mobile (base) and portable. Try com-spec and also do a search for radio narrowband kits.

I don't remember all the details, but.... you actually select a channel slot,to be the scan on. For example--- channel 15.. when you select this channel, the radio then scans the group assigned to it. You cannot program a frequency into this slot..... With out looking at the program, I can't remembe...

The LPE could be transmitting in either Aegis or Provoice, but the above post is correct in that the newer radios or a recently upgraded unit would be the only ones capable of CAI & P25

I have 2 Icom H-16s that I recieved that do not want to take certain frequencies, was there a narrow band or other version produced? I can't get it to take frequenices such as 146.670 or 155.4300, unless I ener them in as .6750 or .6725... But they took 156.800 etc.. Any help or suggestions greatly ...

Yes, they can do repeater pairs as well as CTCSS and DCS. As to the performance they work just fine. As to the cable and software, you will need to see if a local ICOM shop could get it for you thru their purchasing. In my opinion the 88 is to small.
