I got some from a place in Olympia, WA, called Pacific Electronics. For the life of me I can't find a receipt with their number on it now. But information could give it to you. The part #s are;

No sir - the MPD wasn't given the "brains" that the later radios were. In short, it's not flashable. And 16-Plus, wow... that was another of GE's weird trunking experiments that didn't last. I guess it worked, though.

I would add that you can get 32 CH per mode with your Rangr if you add a second eeprom. Just solder in a socket, snap in a chip, and program your head with 32 per mode.

Keypad and Hampflash programming

Yes, you'll need that "system" model flex pad to program your freq's and whatnot. But you're in luck; you can just purchase the keyflex and new front bezel and slap 'em on your "scan" model units and they'll be "system" models. I've done this to a few MP-As I owned. (Yo...

One little thing we should probably specify; make sure you look up the cable on that spreadsheet, because not all of them have the extra 2 or 3 (can't remember) connections to enable them to pass the download data to the radio from the head. The correct cables will be referred to as "downloadin...

GE VoiceGuard

1 Adam 12 is correct; the VG RSS only programmed the normal fare - freqs, CG, etc. Then you needed the keyloader to input your encryption keys. Keep your eye on ebay, as they pop up there ocassionaly, and will go for a couple hundred bucks.

Oh! One other thing - someone said that eachmode holds 16 channels. If you solder in a socket for another X2122 eprom, then you can load up 32 channels per mode. I've done it on several Rangrs and nothing else it required. Just solder the socket, insert the chip, and it's ready to be programmed. Jus...

RE: "yet everyone I talk to says that they can hold 450 or more channels!" I have an old GE sales brochure dated 1990 that describes the 825 heads as being capable of "448 channel capability with Delta, 432 with Rangr". My most complicated setup is about 100 channels. I've always...

Just look on Ebay for "Rangr cable", they're frequently for sale. In fact.... here, your first stop is the Ebay user "d-fowler". He frequently lists these and they are cheap. (But there are others who will have them.) Since you aren't using a "downloading" head, you don...

I've found M-PAs are really a shot-in-the-dark as far as how far out of band they will go. (At least, without some re-tuning). Some stop dead at the limits of their bandsplit, and some will go sickly, obscenely OOB. You just have to try with your particular radio. And if it won't lock, then you just...

The M-PA was killed off before the industry had serious efforts going to mvoe to narrowband. Unless some old genius ham somewhere has come up with something, there is no option for doing it, sadly.
