Free software.

Hello.

Why not a primer on software that covers both what is and what is not Halal?
Some software, like MotoRSS, is clearly out of the question.
Other, like amateur radio, is free for anybody.
Some people who may be new have no idea.
Others, who do know can be delt with by pointing out this primer.

Super tiny radios you can build.

Hello. As the bluetooth revolution is replacing the older induction and RF earpieces, we are getting to the point where we just about can not build anything worth while. But, for the ones who have not seen this. http://www.thebest.net/wuggy/mk484.htm A single IC the size of a transistor that is near...

AN/PRC 148

Hello.

As expected, the AN/PRC 148 is now only a controlled item.
This means it can be exported, but it is in no way FCC approved for ANY service, including law enforcement, in the US.

Holsters for talkies.

Hello.

Who makes holsters for big talkies?
What I am looking for is a holster in natural or tan leather for the thales talkie.
This thing is huge, so most holsters will not work.

Dual band.

Hello.

Much as I hate to say it but,.
Almost everyone I have seen who has a need for a dual band talkie has the ham band rig that has been converted.
The Yaesu ham rig works fairly well if you do a complete conversion, that means retuning.

Kenwood mods.

Hello. The Kenwood TH-f6/7 can now be easily modded for WAY out of band. What you do is load the entire firmware onto your computer and hack the band limits. The radio has a built-in service mode. http://www.ham.dmz.ro/kenwood/th-f7-e-modifications-service-menu-p2.php The TH-f6 and TH-f7 are the sam...

GE*STAR

Hello. GE*STAR was actually developed by a company called coded communications. It, like bramco, the supplier of the CTCSS and paging modules, was simply a 3rd party option. Coded communications supplied a vehicle mounted unit that worked a lot like the Motorola MODAT unit. There is one bit in the G...

PRC-148

Hello. the radio I have is NOT the AN/PRC-148. What I have is the non-NATO, non, US variant. This radio does 25 MHz to 550 MHz. It does the UN modes ONLY. If it is super crispy critter classified mode of operation, this radio will not do it. What it will do. TETRA, yes, the european trunking format ...

CB/GMRS.

Hello. For a panel mount CB/GMRS install that looks "right", Get one of the cobra CBs that the entire radio is in the mic. For the GMRS, get the matching unit in GMRS. There was a FRS unit along the same lines a while back by radio shack. The RS unit has a quite thick cable between the ant...

Ham rigs.

Hello. My ham talkies, kenwood Th-f6a and yaesu VX-7r, can all do PL and DPL, as well as several other signalling formats. A ham rig, as it was pointed out, can do whatever split you want, some can even full-duplex in 2 bands. In a word, screwed. I would really ask myself, why is this person so tick...

Jamming

Hello.

The first question is.
Why did you call the local police?
The second question is.
Why did you stop him?
The thing to do is call the FCC, recordings, pictures, etc, in hand.
As it stands now, he knows you are coming.

Rf spurs.

Hello. A solid state final is just that a semiconductor junction. If the VSWR gets too high, the radio SHOULD fold back power. However, if for some reason not enough foldback occurs, the radio, all radios, will produce spurs, and you are damaging the finals as well. A dummy load is the perfect anten...
