I am selling my VHF VX900. The listing is on the Batboard at:

http://batboard.batlabs.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=76143

If you're in need of an analog (not digital) VHF HT you won't
go wrong with this radio.

Thanks for looking.

Retuning/adjusting a VX-5R

I found recently that the RF output on my VX-5R is more than
5 watts at 142 mHz but only about 3 watts at 147 mHz. Does
anyone have data on how I can retune the radio to move the
max RF output to a higher frequency?

VX900 scanning/scanlist scheme...

The VX900 scans either one zone at a time or all zones at one time, the latter of which is known as Group Scan. Within each zone you program each channel to be scanned or not scanned. You can also temporarily "drop" a zone if need be. It is NOT like a Saber scanlist where the list can be m...

2100H program cable

HRO, or Gigaparts, and other companies that deal in amateur radio equipment will gladly sell you this cable if you give them your credit card number via an online order. I do it all the time to save time and, especially if the amount is on the large side, sales taxes.

Icom mics...

Icom commercial mics work fine on the ham radios just as long as the interconnect plug is an RJ45.

Limiting capacitor???

There is no such thing as a limiting capacitor that would limit range or power. Radios are just not built that way. There may be components that are left out, which would increase sensitivity on receive if they were present, and there are components that control the radio's transmit and receive RANG...

deviation adjustment...

My VX900s have their deviation adjustment located in the service software, which is completely different software from the programming software. It's a very straightforward DOS program, whereas my CE39 features/frequency program is a Windows setup.

"free" channels...

Just to amplify a bit on the reply that was posted, the only band where you can legally transmit at a decent (1 or 2 watts) amount of power is on VHF around 151/154 mHz. There are five channels there that you can use, and these are known as MURS channels. If you just go ahead and transmit on a frequ...

What radio to use?

What makes you think that you will get better results by changing brands of radio? The Motorola Saber is a time-proven workhorse and is arguably the best all-around analog HT Motorola has ever produced. If there is a problem with ALL of your Sabers then the problem is with the system, not the indivi...

VX900 antennas

Gordon, I got a new FT60R recently, which has a nice SMA/Vertex/hooded antenna that works well on both bands. I liked it so much that I ordered another one and now use it on my VX900V and I could use it on my 900U if need be. The antenna is about 7 or 8 inches long but it also does have the proper b...

VX900 mods...

I haven't posted here for a long time and in that time I've managed to convert both of my VX900s to touchpad operation. I had gotten both units from a dealer as demos and they were the plain-front radios, which are a pain because you really need easy-to-operate front programmable buttons which you g...

Icom mics...

The Icom HM118 mics work fine on the amateur radios as long as the radio has an RJ45 mic jack. Their performance, just like the HM133, is mediocre at best for audio qualiity, IMHO.

VX-900 Programming...

My dealer sent me the W98 version of CE39 which runs fine -- and slower -- as you might expect, compared to the DOS version. But now the mouse works and I can run it on the high speed computers so I don't need to buy another DOS laptop.

VX-150

My 150 had to go back twice to have its RF power output restored but it's been trouble-free since then. Turnaround was about ten days for each repair, which given the fact that I'm in DC and they're in CA is outstanding. Serial number of my 150 is OM260547. I've had no noticeable PL opening or cutof...
