Re: Early 5100 RF feedback problem
I bought a 5100 like you did from the same guy on Ebay, very clean. Looks like it wasn't used. Model is 242-5113-622-BA, firmware on bootup is 1.16.9 I have had no problems with it except the RX audio when using a speaker mike is kind of raspy..tried several Motorola mikes (NMN6191's and NMN6193's) ...

Re: Icom IC-F30LT field programmable?
thanks, this gets me further than I have been able to get so far. I do have the RSS, but it appears the programming cable is NLA from Icom, and uses some funky connector I've never seen. I may take you up on your offer of programming, will also throw in something of value for the time. Thanks for po...

Icom IC-F30LT field programmable?
I picked up an Icom IC-F30LT VHF portable, I have read references to this radio being capable of FPP. However, searching high and low yields no instructions on how to enable FPP. Anyone have any idea or is this just a rumor?

Re: VX7 900 MHz???
yes, because of harmonics from the now unused (analog FM) at least cellular band. All the trouble the feds wasted time making it a felony to RX in that range and everything is digital (CDMA, GSM and stil in some areas IS-136). Verizon is now sunsetting AMPS in many areas, and Cingulat&t started ...

Vertex VX-510 charger CD-8 and NiMH batteries
I have a very nice VX-510U with an old battery. Batteries plus carriers an aftermarket FNB-29A that is rated at 7.2v 2000mah but it is a nickel metal hydride cell chemistry whereas the factory FNB-29A is a 7.2v 1700mah Nicad. I own both the newer CD-8 and older CD-3 rapid charger. Are there any cave...

is there any risk of bricking a Kenwood running DOS RSS under Windows like there is with Mexirolas? I have always shyed away from this with horror stories of paperweights but my old IBM ThinkPad 360C is slowly dying, and 486 class laptops that still work (hard drives are the most common failure as t...

Thanks for the reply k2xm. I do know of public safety agencies that are using them for interoperability, and from what I've heard, they like this radio in that application. You'd think that the FCC would allow this modification for interoperability since it is a DHS hot topic. I've heard that there...

differences between CD-1 and CD-3 chargers
I have both. Any differences I should be aware of? they both are for VX500/510/520 batteries, but they are physically the same outside but much different inside.

OPC-478 can it be made to work with the 621?
I have an OEM factory OPC-478 serial cable. I notice Icom has a different style cable for the 521/621 mobiles. Is it possible to build a simple adaptor from the 1/8 plug on the OPC to the RJ-45 or is the data format different?

I have both a Kenwood TK-280 ver 2 and a TK-290 and they run circles around the 1250's I owned. The RX sensitivity on the Kenwoods is miles above the Pro series, and the radios are built much better. I would concur that Kenwood's support is in a class by itself compared to Vertex. I hate sending rad...

why is Vertex USA so incompetent?
yet again, another one of our radios develops a problem (raspy, scratchy audio on RX, almost like it's off freq). This time it's a 6 mo old FT-60. So into VXSTD USA's repair facility staffed by monkeys. This time the radio sits for 2 weeks. So I call "we can't find anything wrong with it"....
