Re: GE Phoenix Programming Help
OK, after going over everything I've got, and experimenting a little, I've found a solution for you. Ditch the fancy commercially-built programmer and build your own. There is a very simple little programmer you can build, possibly from parts you have in your junk-box, and use it together with a few...

Re: Two VX-3000Us, RX fine but 'burp' and cut out on TX
Mind you, I'll still take the pigtail over the crazy little mini-UHF plug that /\/\ puts on its stuff... any day! Agreed! I don't know how common the problem I had actually is. It was with a Yaesu FT-212RH 2m FM rig. The center conductor of the coax pigtail was soldered, but the shield was only con...

Re: GE Phoenix Programming Help
I started looking into this today, and found out that its been too long since I've done this. I'll try to "get back in the swing of things" Saturday night, and relearn everything I've already learned once. I'll try to better document what I do this time. Don't give up on me yet!

Re: Two VX-3000Us, RX fine but 'burp' and cut out on TX
Does this radio have it's coax connector "hard-mounted" to the chassis, or on a short coax pigtail? If on a coax pigtail, check the ground of the pigtail. I've had similar problems to yours (but not exact) from that before.

Re: GE Phoenix Programming Help
Give me a few days, and I'll see what I can come up with. Give me an email addy, so I know where to send the resulting file(s) to. If you don't want to post it, my addy is in my signature, so you can send it directly to me.

Re: GE Phoenix Programming Help
I've had some (successful) experience programming various flavors of Phoenix, even the 128 channel version, with Niles and a home-brew PROM burner. If you'd like, you can send me a frequency list and the combination number off of the radio(s) in question, and I'll see if I can build you a PROM image...
And last but not least what programming software and cable will be needed to program this radio and where can they be purchased? Asking or telling is a violation of board policy, but I think my response will be acceptable under the circumstances.
Its not against board policy to...

Re: MOTOROLA SP50 PROGRAMMING
1: What's the build date of your RSS? If its on or after April of '96, and I'm pretty sure R04 will be, then you should be OK for CPU speed. If its an earlier date, your computer's CPU is too fast. If that's the case, you'll need to find something with an early 486 or earlier CPU. 2: Stupid question...

Re: TK-280 parts needed
No, Jason, I never got any. That's what I'm going to do, is contact a local Kenwood dealer, I just haven't done so yet. Thanks for the offer of help!

No problem, Scott. I'm always happy to help out a fellow tinkerer/modifier, however small or large the help I'm able to offer.

TK-280 parts needed
Does anyone have any of the small, gold-colored spring contacts that attach to the main board for the center conductor of the antenna connector to make contact with? I need four of them. I also need a pair of the battery contacts that go on the back to make contact with the battery.

Re: Ranger Channel Mod?
No, that is simply the second X2212 on it's expansion board. Its sitting over the "first" 2212, on the pins along the sides of it. As for the pinout of the expansion board, I have never actually seen one, so I don't know.

Re: Ranger Channel Mod?
The second chip is another X2212. There is a small circuit board that the chip sits on that "plugs onto" the pins on the sides of the main chip. No idea where you might find a board at.

Re: MPD problems
I would call that a possibility, but for the fact that its always the same channels that act up, while the rest are always OK.

MPD problems
A friend asked me about a problem he's having with an MPD. I'm not familiar with these radios, so I'm turning to those of you who are. The radio was supposedly working properly previously, but has lately developed a problem. On some channels, when the channel is selected, the radio does nothing but ...
