Re: EFJ Avenger questions

PCConfigure will NOT work with the Avenger Radios.
EFJ doesn't support those radios anymore either.
My only advice would be to try and contact Paul from Paul's Two Way.

Re: Problem with Ef Johnson 5300

I would start with the correct PCConfig. 4.4.14 should be using PCC 1.28.0.8 for programming.
I have heard hit and miss stories with RF Guys cables but being that you are able to read/write I don't suspect that to be an issue in this case.

Re: help “BAD FL FMT” appears in the 5100 display

This just means that file format of the codeplug loaded doesn't match the format the radio firmware is expecting. The way to clear this is to read out the codeplug with the appropriate version of PCC and write it back in.

Re: EF Johnson Encryption question

This is where it can get tricky. Originally the radio were shipped with no encryption capability unless purchased at the time of order. later on they added single key DES/DES-OFB as a way to combat Motorola essentially giving away ADP. So there are a ton of radios out there that have the ability to ...

Re: EFJ 5100 Mic connection issues

This looks an older version radio (pre ES) and the side connectors were notoriously soft. You can see the dimpling taking place. That is the crux of your problems, poor electrical/mechanical connection. The only way to remedy is to press the connector tighter somehow, or replace the side port flex. ...

Re: EFJ 2600 Series repeater questions, any help would be appreciated

They do digital just fine, analog is carrier only unless you get a Zetron Model 38a or similar. Once they get up and running they are pretty solid, built on on the older 200x platform that was rock solid for them for Multinet. I'm not sure what version you are running but you'll want to make sure yo...

Re: 5300 and rebanding to the 700 MHz segment

That radio will operate in the 700MHz band if optioned for it.
You will need to use PCConfigure and do a Read Options and see if the 700MHz option is checked.

Re: Differences between EFJ 5100 versions

A good rule of thumb for all ES Radios (Series 6 (mobile and portable)), Whatever the middle two numbers of the firmware version, the middle two numbers of PCConfigure should be 2 higher. So if you have 6. 14 .xx firmware, your PCC version should be 2. 16 .xx When it comes to X platform (Series 4) a...

Re: Differences between EFJ 5100 versions

Version 1 2 and 3 are essentially the exact same units. The only difference is the encryption module. Version 1 used a software based encryption (not FIPS certified). Version 2 used a FIPS certified SEM chip and version 3 used the motorola UCM module (to support DES-XL) All 3 of these version used t...

Re: ef jonhson 5100 vhf

The 5100 will support P25 Trunking if the option is enabled. You can use PCConfigure and do Transfer>Read Options and see if it is. For your scan issue, you most likely set up the scan list using the Radio Wide Scan button on the Radio Wide Page (upper left). This scan list is used for scanning betw...

Re: Highest firmware for 242-5112-210-GA?

Yes you can upgrade that to 1.18.15.
Aside from the multitude of bug fixes/feature enhancements along the way one big change was around the 1.12.x line of code they did some tweaks and were able to improve Rx sensitivity around 3db on average (according to the release notes).

With the exception of the 100w radios, all of the VHF 5300 did 136-174. Not sure what other band you are looking for.
