They are about 2 years old
Except for one new one that failed before putting in use they are all proven batteries. I was told the average life wold be about 2 years, which means 1-4 for some unknown reason. It's just that I have about a dozen setting n a box right now that one day just decided not to take a charge.

Batteries are dying alll over the place
Our little VFD got a grant a couple years ago for radio equipment. The HT's are Kenwood 272g's with KNB15A batteries. We've just had an absolute rash of battery failures recently. Most common complaint is "I put it in the charger and it flashes red and won't charge" 2 questions: 1. Can I d...

I like the Vertex but would go Kenwood
I can't speak to the specific radios. I have Kenwood 270 and 272's , and a friend has a couple Vertex. I wouldn't be afraid of either radio. However, I have better local service for Kenwood. Also, I have been reading and hearing that Vertex tech support has gotten more difficult to work with.

Gentlement, press your monitor buttons! As programmed from the factory the monitor button disables the squelch only while holding it in. But I got to to studying the programming software and as I understand it I can program a button to toggle the tone squelch off and on. So, I programmed the lower ...

Can I transmit 2 subaudible tones at once on a TK-272G ?
Here's the situation. Our local 911 dispatches all fire and EMS from 151.385. Our VFD uses 154.205 as our talkaround and on scene freq. The next county uses 154.205 for dispatch and on scene both, so we haeve our HT's set up with decode on the subaudible tone so we only hear our own radios. (yes, th...

Drilling a hole is always preferable
It's a better location and who in his right mind uses a 1/4 wave anyway? Get a real antenna. OK, that didn't sound so nice. In the last 30+ years I've seen about every combination you can suggest. Without a doubt nothing beats a gain antenna in the middle of the roof. Everything else is a second cho...

First place I would look
Simply because it is easiest the first place I would look is the power cable. Is it heavy enough? Does the connection have the capability to handle the current you are drawing? Dad put a 45 watt business radio in his truck and plugged it into the cigarette lighter, then wondered why it didn't work r...

May need Windows 98
My dealer provided me with the software to program my 270 and 272, but I can't make it work on XP. I tried every trick anyone could think of. My daughter had a laptop with 98 she wasn't using any more so I tried it. Worked perfectly.

Now what?
I got the radios out of the box and they had a sticker from an Icom dealer on them!. I called him and they generously sold me cables and the CS-F100S software. The only problem is when I try and read the radio before programming (they were supposed to have 6 itenerant freq's and a weather radio freq...

Need help programming ICOM F121S radios
I just purchased 3 new in box ICOM IC-F121S radios on ebay (Item number: 7556206710). I contacted the seller repeatedly about the programming of them. Originally I was under the impression the radios would be programmed to my specs before shipping. Later the seller told me the needed information to ...

No but I do have some BK HT carrying cases for sale
Bendix King is just not a well known brand in my area. I guess they are supposed to be pretty good, just nobody ever pushed them here. I bought a lot of 15 HT cases on ebay to get the one I wanted. Included were some new BK's I intend to resell. But that is my total involvement with Bendix King Tell...

Since I posted the original question back in June I have changed ISP's and the problem went away. For some reason it had a problem with this particular site.
