Re: MODEL STRING DECODE REQUESTS ONLY

I've been kinda slacking on this topic lately (doh) As for the above post, I wish it was that easy.... It changes a little depending on the radio type (5100 vs 5300) and also within the radio type depending on the generation. Mobiles aren't as bad, but the portables changed somewhat from the legacy ...

Re: 53SL HELP

Pin 6 of the accy connector must also be hooked up to a 12v source (ignition sense).
EFJ in all their wisdom (sarcasm icon here) decided to NOT have a way to disable that.

XTS antennas are fine. I used the MOT wideband VHF antenna on my radio for years....

Re: EF Johnson 5100 and Motorola Astro 25 don't talk problem

I am 99% sure it is because MOT by default doesn't use talkgroups in Digital conv mode, whereas EFJ defaults to talkgroup 1. Change the EFJ radio to use TG 65535 (FFFF Hex) and I am sure it will work fine.

Re: EFJ 242-5575-810HA4 5500? OR 5100 ?

Bad File Format is the error you are seeing. It means one of 3things: 1. It is an older firmware level where upon writing a new codeplug there was not a backup copy stored in flash, because the code did not support it and the main one became corrupted and could not operate. 2. The main and backup co...

Re: MODEL STRING DECODE REQUESTS ONLY

I'd still go with Series 4. Don't waste your time on the Series 1. TOO many issues with that radio. MOST XTS accessories will work, but they did do some pinout changes later in its life to change that. It is hard to say 100% that the accessory will work. MOST will however. The big thing is if you ha...

Re: MODEL STRING DECODE REQUESTS ONLY

The series 1 radios utilized the Motorola Saber RF deck, whereas the series 4 deck utilized and EFJ RF deck. The series 4 radios are newer and will support more of the P25 Trunking features you will undoubtedly desire. Both have the pros and cons but the series 1 has more cons IMO. The options will ...

Re: MODEL STRING DECODE REQUESTS ONLY

The 1.18.15 FW is for a different radio than the 4.10.11 and they are not interchangeable. You have a series 4 radio so you will need the 4.x.x code base. The last FW for that radio was 4.14.5 and would need PCC 2.10.2 I personally would recommend the latest FW for that series from what you have. I ...

Re: MODEL STRING DECODE REQUESTS ONLY

My apologies.... When looking at my secret decoder sheet, I looked under the BE column instead of the BFcolumn.
The info from EFJ is correct, there is NOT P25Trunking.

Re: MODEL STRING DECODE REQUESTS ONLY

Yes, the radio will work down to 136 MHz. You could get a wideband antenna to cover the entire band, or you get a tuned antenna that goes down to (starts at) 136 Mhz.
