Re: SYNTECH II 70-0520CWB issues

By any chance is the output filter causing your output power to fall off? Many of the low band radios have the output lowpass filter skirts designed so that they roll off real fast after the 50 MHz point. You may end up having to modify the filter to allow a higher rolloff point. Jim [quote="wi...

ICOM FT33 portable TX adjustments

Was just shown a new ICOM FT33 portable. Put it on a service monitor and saw that the deviation was on the high side. Was told this is a new radio just out of the box by the user. Never seen this radio before, I have to ask about it. Just how are any adjustments made to the transmitter? Is there a s...

Re: Old TPX Handheld help!

By any chance have you looked around the station on the wall in the dispatch area for a license? The other thing you could do is look on the FCC site for ifo if the license is still valid. If you can't find any license info anyplace, I would refrain from using the radios. The fine is $10,000 a day f...

Kenwood portable 2180 and 3180 speaker mic connections neede

Looking for the pinout info for a Kenwood 2180 and 3180 portable speaker mic connection to the radio.

Looking for the physical location of where the pins are on the connector for what the use is.

If you have the wire colors on the speaker mice that would also be nice.

This topic comes up every once in a while. Having been in the radio shop area for over 35 years now, I will give you my 2 cents worth. I have never seen a radio damaged by not having a fuse in the ground wire. Most of the radios are installed in police cars, fire trucks, cement mixers, large tractor...

EF Johnson portable 5100 questions on programming

Is there anyway to get a simple printout of the modes and channels in the 5100 portable? It looks like the software was wrote by a moron that has never had to deal with a portable that had a bunch of channels installed. The only print option that I see is one that just gives you reams of paper and a...

Re: Is this board slower than cold molasses or is it me?

I too have always found this site very slow. I may point the finger at my ISP as part of the problem. I have noticed that several sites, including this one and the apco international site are very slow from the house. If I try them from work, it's much better. The house connection is a DSL that work...

Re: Radio Interoperability

You didn't indicate if this was to be a fixed location device or a mobile mounted device. Bear in mind you will probably need to set up a talkgroup for mutual aid. This way when any communications shows up on the VHF frequency, it won't interfere with your normal communications. You will need a VHF ...

Re: Cross Patch 500M to VHF High Band

I have to ask a question here. I have been in the radio field for well over 35 years now and thought I knew most of the equipment out there. Guess i am just plain brain dead on this one. Could you explain just what a 500M is. Maybe I am leaning too far out on the tree limb here, but it might help if...

TNC connectors

[quote="k5iq"]Definitely a TNC. It may be easier to find a BNC or UHF to TNC adaptor than to find an already cabled antenna with a TNC on the end. I've found both adaptors and loose TNC connectors at ham radio flea markets, but only within the last couple of years. Then again, I wasn't loo...

GE Delta SX UHF range

They should do fine for the entire band. i have always slid them down into the 444 ham band and as a result lost the top end. You will have to retune both the RX and TX VCO adjustments if you do go out of the normal range.

Fine radio and very few problems.

[quote="Jim1348"]I recently had the modification done to make my GE Delta front panel programmable. I am just curious if anyone here has done this? Also, we did not install a switch, but rather just hold down the two buttons on power up and this works great. My questions is can DCS codes b...
