You need to have the radio in program mode, don't remember exactly how but it's not hard. As far as the help goes, first start the program then in one of the right hand pull down menus there is an item called "help path"...use that item to tell it what directory on the computer the help fi...

Yes to both although I have found a bench grinder will make a 8 pin connector narrower very neatly so it fits in a 6 pin socket, and also you do not lose the outside pins when you do this so if you needed it to remain 8 pin (which of course you do not in this case) it would still work.

Those two pinouts are the same minus the wire on the end (I don't have terminal functions in front of me)...I too use the 6 pin and 8 pin interchangeably...mostly on x80/x180 but I grab whichever one my hand lands on first

I made one from a MAX232 chip and a serial port extension cable from an old ISA card that fits the connector on the Midland. I have been using it for some years now and I have also made it work to program Minitor III/IV pagers, and probably Vs too

It has been a while since I've used one but I think you either had to hold down the OST button for some period of time or hold the SCN key while pushing the OST button. Or maybe it was the MON key. Anyway it was a really dumb thing. When you get it right "CODE x" comes up on the display an...

Do they have a voice recorder feature? Do they do 2-tone or DTMF? How much do they cost?

Experience with NiMH Batteries?

I just ordered 4 NiMHs LAA0125-HX from Multiplier to try out. Has anybody else used them with these radios? FWIW I have been using NiMH AAAs in my Minitor IV for some months now with great results. Although the pager runs a pretty long time even with the regular NiCDs. I have come to believe that th...

I bet you could program it through the back. I am pretty sure that all Kenwood does is use a MAX232 equivalent to convert the serial +/- 12v to TTL for the radio. However I don't know if any other pins other than TXD and RXD are required.

We just set up a trunking system and are selling the heck out of the 7180s lately, however we quit buying the Hs and have been using the 30 watt ones, because the 2.2 dB difference has very little effect on system performance anyway, and the premium $$$ Kenwood charges are not worth it usually. One ...

Anybody Tried Swissphone Pagers

With the M5 apparently being pretty much the same as the previous generations, I wonder if anybody has tried the Swissphone pager or if there is anything else out there. Also what is their dealer network like. Is it worthwhile to become a dealer.

This problem is overcome with the x90 series by using a noise cancelling mic. The noise cancelling mic has two elements one in the front you yak into and one in the back that picks up noise. They are fed into an op amp on opposite sides so most of the noise gets cancelled. Originally they were alway...

TK-7180 Scans All The Time

We are new to trunking here and we have these 7180s and 2180s that we have set up for two channels on the same home trunk. One is ours that we use to talk back and forth on and one is the customer's. The trouble is, even when the radio is not in "SCAN" mode, it still scans to whichever cha...

You don't have to have the programming adapter button either. Just pull off the rubber side cover, there is a 6 pin connector there. Jam a key or pocketkife in the back two (upper and lower) contacts while holding the FCN key and it will go into programming mode that way. We use that feature all the...
