Unfortunately, it is more than just a MAX232. There several transistors on the board, all surface mount. I have no idea how to ID SMDs, so have no way to what the specs of them are. If I could do that, I would have no problem making a schematic like I have posted on the board of the KPG22 / 4, as we...

The first thing you have to do is get an FCC licence for the frequencies you are interested in operating on. You will also have to know if you plan to use simplex, a repeater, how many frequencies you will need, etc... For more information about licencing, check out http://wireless.fcc.gov . For mor...

One option for your serial port problem is a PCMCIA to serial adapter, if your laptop has a PCMCIA port, that is, and most newer ones do. From what I understand about this type of adapter, it does not 'emulate' a serial port like a USB adapter does, but is rather the real deal. Maybe someone else ca...

OPC-478 question
Could I use a MAX232, or something similiar, in place of the circuit in the OEM cable? How would I wire it?

2 ch. TK-350?
OK, here's the deal. I have a couple of TK-350G HTs. As I received them, they have two channels, and the display shows no 'names', just '1' and '2', respectively. Now, here's the real kicker. When I try to read them with my copy of KPG-23D, which is version 1.00, it says 'model not supported'. If I ...

OK, the TRS board is the board that the microcomputer plugs into. The entire radio, minus any possible option boards, is made up of two boards; the TRS board, and the PA board. I know nothing about being able to find the correct microcomputer from the TRS board number. All I know about these radios ...

Do you mean the part number of the TRS board, or the microcomputer? The part number would be different on the board, as it contains everything but the PA for the radio, and is definately frequency dependant. If it is still there, the part number of the microcomputer should be on a yellow sticker, wh...

Well, I don't know that it will really help you out that much, but I'll give you what info I have on the subject. According to the service manual (LBI-31564), the GE part number, for the VHF, is 19A703244P23, and it is an 8-bit HMOS microcomputer. I have no idea if the VHF and UHF microcomputers are...

To narrow down the possibilities a little, how close are the other frequencies to your 'problem frequency'? Redbird is probably right, but I would check first to be certain. If you need the manual, give me an email addy, preferably one that accepts large (app. 11 mb) files, and I'll send one to you....
