I never had that happen to me. I have done several tk 2140 and 3140 radios with this mod and all worked great.

no problem!! I learned this from a comm tech for BLM on a wildland fire when they brought in a type 2 team and changed all the operating frequencies and I didn't have my laptop to change it with. Just thought I would pass it along.

Yes the tk-280, and tk-380 are able to be feild programmed. You don't even have to use the DTMF key pad for programming. There is a resistor that has to be removed in order to field program this radio plus it must be enabled in the software. I will try to get some pic's on here of what diode must be...

I have all the cables and the ce39 program but I was looking for info on the ck-9 programming key to program on the fly. there are a whole lot of lap tops on the fire line

Can you feild program a vx-900 with the ck-9 key even if the radio doesn't have a key pad? Kinda like the tk-290 radios from kenwood.

Last nite I was updateing some 290's. 1 of them was put into the firmware mode and programmed. the radio had a good battery on it and the pc didn't freeze but know the radio will not do anything. When the radio is turned on the display "says program" and when I toggle to the FW version the...

are the contacts clean? check to see if the low battery level is set to high in the software.

I am not real sure about the 180 and 3200 softwear, but the 900 uses ce39 to program. The cables you will need for the 900 is the vpl-1 and ct-70. I think you can get the vpl-1 with a a USB instead of the 9 pin serial. The ce39 will run in XP just fine.
