MRK upgrade
It is POSSIBLE. 1) The front covers are interchangeable 2) In Maintenence you have to tell the radio what version it is 3) The proper operating code must be loaded - whether it works or not depends on what is in the present radio.

Your listing was a little confusing.
1) Press Ptt and both side buttons simulanteously
2) Turn on power
3) display shows no characters - all LCD segments are turned on for a window-screen appearance

Not sure what you've got. That combination is NOT listed in the Orion service manual. What model/freq range do you have?

The programmable outputs are the collector of a a transistor and only sink current. They would be able to handle either +5 or +12 signals.

S825 volume
There are at least 4 IC's involved directly with amplifying and switching the audio. The board is NLA and cost a fortune when available. Good luck.

S825 voice guard
The cable is a loop in-loop/ loop-out on a pin-for-pin basis. The enable is from the switch on the front, or else has to be modified to give a remote closure.

My question is WHY? The IPE is a very poor product and not worth doing anything with.

If you have a choice, avoid 136.5. That is the same as the turn-off code for systems using DPL and you will have a noise burst everytime anyone unkeys using DPL on that frequency.

Try reading/writing tracking data to the radio using MAINTENENCE. Then write a personality to it.
