There are scanners that have a interface that allows them to be controled with a PC. Uniden has a scanner I believe it is a model 850 that uses software called or made by Mozilla. I have used it a couple of times and it works pretty good. You can program the frequencies into it from the computer instead of using the keypad on front of the scanner. Then save the programming info to your harddrive. there is also a card that you can get for the PC that works as a scanner but it is expensive. I use a Radio Shack Pro92 scanner. It dosen't allow control by a computer but you can upload/download all 500 Channels via a computer using software and a plug on the side of the scanner and a simple TTY to RS232 converter.
