Hello,
I have been a Motorola fan all my life, but have finally started looking at other brands. The Motorola feature that I would like to have that is not a common feature of other radios is MDC-1200 PTT-ID compatability. What models have this feature? I have seen 1 Icom portable(F50), 1 Kenwood portable (2180) and 2 Vertex portables (600&900). Are these the only non-Motorola portables made that do MDC-1200 PTT-ID? Out of those 4 which would be the best?

Thanks,

If none of the above are prefferrable in the outcome, Cimarron makes some great aftermarket boards.

Don't know about the Icom, but the Kenwood and Vertex radios use the Cimarron boards to do MDC. It is not native to the radio. The Kenwood x180 series is kickass compared to the junk Scrotumhola is producing these days. Well, anything Kenwood makes is. Vertex is a POF since the Vertex-Standard merger.

:D We have had great succes with the Cimmeron boards in the Vertex VX820/920, and 4200 mobile for encode and decode. We have a few fire departments and police that have upgraded firmware in the vx800 & 900 radios they have to do encode and decode.

Just wish the VX5500/6000 series mobile would decode. We actually have quite a few of the 4200 series mobiles for desk top control stations. Found out by accident it will also decode DTMF and MDC1200 on the same channel, which it is not supposed to do.

Just my nikels worth.

ICOM F14/24, F33/43, F50/60, F3061/4061, F5061/6061, F70/80, F1821/1721, F121s/221S all have built in MDC1200. The newest features are MDC-1200 Enhanced which allows for some additional features of the format. All there radios have it built into the software, and are very easy to configure to go into a current system.
