WORK LOCATION: 6452 South 144th St., Tukwila, WA.



WORK SCHEDULE: This position is overtime eligible based on a 40-hour workweek; Monday through Friday with normal work hours of 7:30 A.M. – 4:00 P.M.



POSITION PURPOSE: This position is in the King County Radio Communication Services Section (RCS) and performs skilled technical work programming, installing, and troubleshooting land mobile radio equipment and related auxiliary equipment including mobile and portable two way radios, mobile data devices and fixed site equipment. Work is performed in both shop and field environments for users of the regional radio systems such as the King County Sheriff’s Office as well a wide variety of other government agencies.



PRIMARY JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:

Install and remove all types of radio and electronic communications equipment, radio site equipment, and electronic security systems. Perform preventative maintenance to the “box” level.
Provide troubleshooting of mobile and fixed radio equipment installations. Determine failure to either radio equipment itself or the installation. May provide mechanical or assembly level board swaps as appropriate.
Assist in scheduling installation and removal of mobile and fixed radio equipment. Provide needed equipment documentation including install/removal history and maintain records regarding work orders and installation procedures and practices.
Provide initial point of technical contact for communications equipment user.
Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of one year experience installing and maintaining land mobile radio equipment and related auxiliary systems.
Must have demonstrated knowledge of installation and basic radio maintenance practices.
Knowledge of basic electronics, communications equipment and auxiliary equipment.
Capable of using basic electronic test equipment (DVM, wattmeter, service monitor) to determine failure location.
Must be proficient in using computers and computer software to perform system diagnostics, interpret results, program equipment and maintain equipment and system databases.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to create and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Must be able to execute work tasks when directed either orally or in writing.
Must have the ability to pay attention to details.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of a two year program in communications electronics or the equivalent military or vocational school training.
Two or more years experience working in a radio repair facility for a self maintained government entity or a radio maintenance service enterprise affiliated with a major communications equipment manufacturer.


NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants selected for this position are required to pass a physical examination prior to beginning employment. The person selected for this position will be required to pass a background check. Candidates must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license (or obtain one within 30 days of hire), have a good driving record and the ability to travel throughout King County in a timely manner in a variety of County vehicles
