The Radio Information Board

Hi folks!

Wow looks like a load of information here!
But too start.......I am a total Newbie, but spend a
load of time up in the back woods of British Columbia,
and whenever going out with groups of people, (All friends)
Exploring, we all use CB radios in our vehicles, however these are limited
in range and atmospherics (Like you all don't know this)
FRS is quite useless also.

I have been given a bunch of VHF Radios, for free, and am looking
for some advice. I need to know, are these worth keeping, should I buy new,
How do I program them, best places for bits etc.

I have

1: 1x Ericsson GE Mobile Model 344A4210p13 Rev N. No mike. (Shows an error while keying up)
2: 5x Motorola Radius P110 Handsets, no batteries, 8 Chargers (Nicad) and one fast charger (I think NiMH?) and only 2 antennas
3: 1x Yaesu Mobile FTC-4610 With Mike
4: 1x Yaesu Mobile FTC-4625 No Mike (These are cheap from the Source/Radio Shack etc)
5: 1x Motorola GM-300, No Mike (RJ Type Plug)

Have gotten the PCB/Parts layout for the Radius Programming, and will be building one in a hurry,
and am out and about looking for batteries for them (Ebay, local shops etc.)

I am quite the Electronics lover, My dad is an Electronics Engineer, and I am a Systems Engineer,
so, I am not afraid of much Off now to borrow his Oscilliscope to see if any of thes radios
still have a programmed freq in them.

Any info, help would be muchly appreciated!

Great the Yaesu and Motorola gm 300 are UHF

Before you worry about programming them, what type of license do you have, under Canadian regulations, that would allow you to use a VHF frequency??

For UHF, does Canada have the equivalent of GMRS that you could obtain a license for?

From what I understand, Canada does have a GMRS radio service. It uses the exact same frequencies as here in the U.S. but is license free. I think power is limited to 2 watts on Canadian GMRS band though, and no repeaters allowed.

I'm OK with the Radius, have contacted a local supplier for Batteries, $99 quid per NiMH
Freqs are open with them, and they will program for free, wish I had known that before I put out the $25 for the hardware to program them, ah well, I love a challenge
