HYT Radios

Post by tonyg »

Has anyone had any experience with radios made by HYT?

They are relatively new in the US, and have a new radio out called the TC-780 that has 256 channels and is MDC-1200 capable.

We got our demos in a month ago. Still sitting in the box. We looked at them. Nice radios. The MDC function if I remeber is not MDC1200 as we all know it, unless somthing changed.

So far we have no interest from any customers in them. Most of the models do not have a usable bandwith for us. We need 450-480 for most if not 450-512.

We have been a HYT Dealership since October 2007.
Our bread and butter is and will always be Motorola but HYT has a niche for us and some customers.
I have had good luck with the TC-600 and TC-610/620 portables. Also the TC-700 portable as it does MDC1200 compatible HDC1200.It also does HDC2400 signalling but have not had a call for its feature yet.The mobile TM-800 has not been very big with us.It is not a bad mobile for its pricetag.
Schools like the TC-600 for its size and weight.Security/Maintenance likes the TC-700 for its ruggedness and MDC1200 features. The lowend TC-500 is not too bad,but I have had issues with the rear housing assembly coming lose. But that is only on 3 out of 60 sold so far.
I am seeing more and more Motorola and Kenwood Dealer selling HYT now,but they do it on the side,or on the "DL".Heheheheh
They have Manufacturers Rep Groups now for the most of the USA so it is getting into the Dealer channels or will soon be.
I have a demo TC-780 in both VHF and a UHF model, will be playing with them this week and putting them through thier paces, encoding, decoding and Zone scanning ,see how they hold up.
I like that HYT offer some T-band in UHF also,470-520mhz stuff.

I just piked up some Relm/BK RP7500's - same think as the HYT 780. Barely starting to play around with them and fiddle with the programming software. They seem like nice radios for the price - decent replacement for the Moto 1250 for some users.

So far, I can't figure out how to do zone aliasing. The box is grayed out, so I'm stuck with Z1, Z2, etc.

Also, does anyone know how to enable dealer mode for FPP? Haven't heard back from Relm yet, and it's one of those grayed out boxes in the programming software.

I have not figured out yet how to name the zones in the TC780 either.I do not know if the 780 has FFP option or not, cannot find it in software to enable.
I think it kinda sucks that you can order the same radio from Relm now called the RP7500 series. Also the 980 and 610 and also now the 700 series.
Confusing!

Got an answer back from Relm - the 7500 will not do FPP as they advertise, and zone aliasing is no go as well. Both of these features are supposed to eventually be available when new firmware is released, but no telling how long that will take.

You'd think they'd just do it right from the get-go.

Zone aliasing would be more important for me.Why bother with all the zones like a HT1250 and not be able to identify them? Especially in a 256 Channel radio.
I have a HT1550XLS with FFP but hardly ever use it.

I was initially having problems with zone aliasing also...

The text box for "Zone Alias" does not activate until you add multiple zones to the zone list.

Once this is done, you should be able to give each an alias.

Hmm...I still can't get zone aliasing to work and have multiple zones set up. Still grayed out.

What firmware version are your radios running?

I guess the TC780 is never to offer Zone Aliasing.Kinda stupid for a radio offering multiple zone operation IMHO.
Supposedly the TC980 "WILL" offer zone aliasing.*Fingers Crossed here*

The TC980 does in fact offer Zone aliasing. It is also programmable for a HOT DTMF keypad ,unlike the 780 model.
Have had 1 in UHF and 1 in VHF here for 2 weeks, they have been working just as well as my TK2160 and HT1250 as far as RX and TX properties. The 2 tone decoding has been flawless, better than my Minitor IV in some areas.Having the antenna helps I guess.
