'Base Commander' antenna series by Andrew/Decibel/AS

Post by N3AAG »

I am thinking about purchasing Andrew/Decibel Products 'Base Commander' series antenna like is:

ASP-680, ASP-682, ASP-685 & etc.

Anybody have experience with them?

How they in comparison with RFS/Celwave, Sinclair, Procom, Kathrein & etc. base omni fiberglass antennas?

It's correct that they originally made by Antenna Specialist? I do not trust Antenna Specialist production as it is similar to cheap Chinese toys (if to speak about mobile antennas).

Any info about will be appreciated!

For years, OK, maybe decades, the ASP680 was my antenna of choice, when I needed a lightweight, low wind load antenna, with gain. At only four (4) pounds, I have never had one fail. Highly recommended, at least from this old radio guy. Now the bad new about it. It is no longer being produced. I have recently tried to find 5 or 6 of them, in NOS, but haven't been able to turn up even one. The Super Base Commander series is still being produced, by RFS I think, but the ASP680 is no more.
