Solid State Finals

Post by jeff4570 »

Any experience with the solid state finals (or RF package) in the FT840 creating spurs when on an antenna but not on a dummy load ?
Any history of RF problems with this model ?

Hello.

A solid state final is just that a semiconductor junction.
If the VSWR gets too high, the radio SHOULD fold back power.
However, if for some reason not enough foldback occurs, the radio, all radios, will produce spurs, and you are damaging the finals as well.
A dummy load is the perfect antenna, flat VSWR across the band.
