Depends on the model of the board, the software you're using and the radio. The board I have (purchased off ebay) does MODAT signalling cannot be programmed through the software, the ID number was pre-programed and then enabled in the software.

The ANI-F board is manufactured by Midian - http://www.midians.com - and will need to be programmed outside of the radio with Midian's KL-3 Programmer and the VPI-1 interface. Here's the link to the board page http://www.midians.com/html/specspage.a ... +Signaling

The Cimarron - http://www.cimtechcorp.com - boards can be programmed while they're in the radio using Vertex's CE-73 software. I really like the VMDE-200 because it also decodes, but the ANI-F will does a lot more functions and as a freebie vs $130; heck, that's very COOL.
