The Radio Information Board

I am new to vhf radio. I have worked with cb's in the past. I just bought a Kenwood TK-730 mobile radio (government auction) which included the mike and external speaker. I live in British Columbia, Canada, and want to use the radio while driving on logging roads.

What type of antenna should I get?

Does cable lenght matter?

Where can I find info about the wire connections block on the back of the unit?

Anything else I should know about these radios?

To talk to who else ? What frequencies and ctcss or dpl codes.
You will need programming equipment to set it up. are you licensed
to talk to whoever on the logging roads ? No the coax length does not matter just as (contrary to popular belief) it does not matter on a
CB radio either IF you use PROPERLY MATCHED antennas.
A good antenna would be a quarter wave whip or a 5/8 wave
base loaded. That is a fairly decent radio for its proper, licensed, and legitimate use in commercial bands. Or get a ham license and put it on 2 meters, then you can talk all day going down the road with a lot of other hams. Kenwood can probably supply you with an install manual
for it. Drop them a note on their website. That will tell you
what all of those little connections are for. Phrawg
