Thank you. I got a free PDF of the 150 page users manual from E.F. Johnson, but haven't tackled it yet. I had to give my first born for their PC Configure software and USB Programming Cable though!

Sorry for the bump, but may I have the radio information for this model as well, I've seem to deciphered the beginning, but I do not know the option codes.

242-5113-310BF4

5100 series
VHF (136-174 MHz)
Standard, DTMF keypad
VHF 162-174 MHz Ant
Ultra high capacity, NiMH
Black

So Still need to know what BF4 means, hopefully I did not mess up the first part.

Thank you for the reply. Understandably this next question is more of a question for my Wing Comm. Officer. In the rare case he does not know about this specific model with these option codes. Would you happen to know if this would work on CAP frequencies (Assuming I change the antenna to 136-151MHZ or 136-174MHZ) and their P25 configuration? Thank you.

Yes, the radio will work down to 136 MHz. You could get a wideband antenna to cover the entire band, or you get a tuned antenna that goes down to (starts at) 136 Mhz.

I'm a bit confused, I did not know if this was still an active thread before I received your response and also asked EF Johnnson about the options on the radio. They provided me with this.

Antenna: VHF 162 - 174 MHz
Battery: NiMH Battery Pack
Housing :Black
Protocol: P25 AMBE+2
System: Conventional System
Software Control:
DES/DES-OFB Encryption
P25 OTAR
512 Channels / Talkgroups

With the following message,

"The radio in question does not have P25 Trunking. It is a conventional trunking only.
To add P25 Trunking is an additional $425. I’m not sure what other options your other radios have to know if this will work with them."

So this radio does not have trunking capabilities in it's current setup? As that is the important thing. tank you.

My apologies.... When looking at my secret decoder sheet, I looked under the BE column instead of the BFcolumn.
The info from EFJ is correct, there is NOT P25Trunking.

Thanks anyways I.S. when it comes to the FW of the radios, what differences are their? I ask as I have the option of taking one with FW 1.18.15 or FW 4.10.11. I assume the better would be 4.10.11, but I am no expert, also is their a FW update for these radios. I'm sure my Wing Comm officer has all the needed software to program the radio. Thank you.
