adding options? 5100

Got two 5100 portables that are in nice shape. Only thing is they done have the mdc1200 option. Any idea what i would be looking to upgrade and would i need to send it or could efj send me a file to upload?

an EFJ dealer can do it for you, no idea what it costs...

let me rephrase, I have the cable and s/w. I see an option to load an upgrade file. What i want to find out is can it be ordered from parts. and what cost i am looking at.

List price for the MDC1200 upgrade is $60.
They will just need the ESN from the radio and they can send you the options file and you can turn it on via PCConfigure.

DES-XL is only supported on the version 3 radios, which is no longer made nor supported by EFJ, and as far as I know the upgrade option is no longer available.

ok and to my next question. Can you upgrade a limited keypad to full keypad?

You can. You will need to take the radio apart a little bit to get the rubber keypad in though. It's kinda of pain in the A.. but it can be done. Plus you will need the full keypad support option turned on if it isn't already.
