I need to know the firmware version. It is displayed upon power up right after the the viking logo.

firmware version 3.10.6
it does say DSP failed after 2 self test power cycles.

3.10.6 would use 1.30.2 PCC. This is a limited release so good luck getting a copy of it unless you can prove you belong to the organization that the release was made for.

The DSP fail is a semi-common issue with radios of this vintage. Most likely it is the flex between the Logic and Rf that has some crappy solder joints on it. Fixing it is a pain in the field. Most of the time you'll just end up wrecking the flex strip.

if im understanding you correctly, its NOT like Motorola where the newest version will do all radios programmed with a previous version?

Your understanding, for the most part, is correct. There are some exceptions but you should use a specific version of PCC for specific version of firmware.
