EFJ 242-8655 900mhz ?????

Post by n9wzx »

I see the last posts concerning the model 8655 and other 900mhz radios are several months old. Anyone heard anything or been able to make any progress on converting and programming these radios into the 902-928 ham bands?? I have two of them and would like to get them converted and use them for a low power repeater.

I am trying to find someone who has successfully used on thar radio on the LCRA (Lower Colorado River Authority) system in Texas. They use mostly GE systems.

I ran across a post awhile back on the 8640/8655 radios. There is a guy who will make new
UPC's for those radios that will work on 902-928. For the life of me, I don't remember where I read this info. The price was very reasonable, as I recall.

Try doing search engine inquiries, I'm sure you'll find it. In the meantime, I will re-post here if I run across the site again.

We were able to convert to 900 MHZ Ham band. We used an 8.00 USD firmware chip that a ham shipped up from the USA in NY State. Check out http://www.repeaterbuilder.com and follow link to EF Johnson for info.
