I believe what you have is one of the Syntech I series of radios. These units are programmed via an eprom mounted on a small circuit board. Usually this is identified by an opaque sticker oner the window on the eprom. The eprom is read on a stand alone programmer then erased with ultraviolet light (eprom eraser) then the new modified program is loaded. There is a PC version of the programmer produced in Australia. The only tone capabilities I have heard of are Pl and burst although an aftermarket unit could probably be added.

70-05x series

To program the 70-050, you need a 70-1000 programmer (the A model is
about $500-1000...even used!! and the C model is $350 from Australia)...
the radio uses an EPROM module (2716) that controls the VCOs, etc..
It CAN be put on six...the VCOs and the rcvr front end will need to be
retuned though....even after the EPROM is reprogrammed.

Syntech

Post by Andy Brinkley »

The Syntech I series does indeed require a 70-1000 series programmer.

It WILL NOT do DPL. In fact the PL board is limited in that it will only do a fraction of the standard PL tones. If you want some of the tones that it is not set up to do you have to add several jumpers and hack the programming in order to make them work.

E-mail me direct if you need more info.

Happy Holidays !!!
