800 Rebanding and MACOM

Post by apco25 »

Any word from Macom on what portables and mobiles will be "flashed" to handle rebanding?

ma-com rebanding

Post by beaujo_fire »

I thought I heard that I would not affect ma-com gear since all the gear uses freqs that are programmed into the radio in logical order.

ma-com radios do not need to be flashed since they are programmed in Logical order unlike motos that use a store freq database within their rom

M/A Com Rebanding

Post by brueger »

I am the communications officer for my cities fire department - we have approximately 45 Rangr mobiles, some 800m and 67 MPAs.

Because of my position, I am in the planning and coordination group for the rebanding issue. My city is also in the "first wave."

I cannot go into too many details, but I am being told that the Rangr and the MPA will have to be replaced.

Cheers

That's most likely do to the age of the Rangr and MPA model and the fact that they can't go narrowband.

I have a chart somewhere, but from memory, MPA's, Ranger's, PCS's and a few early Prism models cannot be reprogrammed for narrow band because they don't have the hardware. The Prisms have a programming issue that doesn't allow them to go down low enough in frequency.

I'll see if I can locate the chart.

M/A-Com advised us that any 1Meg or higher radio can reband, any radios less then a 1meg board cannot reband {IE. MPA,512K LPE-200,M-RK,etc}

the rebanding issue is a simple software file upgrade, no big deal. All of our 1 & 2 meg radios already have the upgrade
