Ranger at 12.5khz channels

Post by iw3row »

Hi all!

I have the opportunity to get some Ericsson GE Ranger radios. The model is the UHF (450-470Mhz) probably used on motorcycles. I'll need to program them on frequencies like 4xx.512.5 (12.5 khz step), is it possible in any way (also hw mods)? Or you can only set 4xx.500 or 4xx.525 and so on?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Unfortunately, the Rangr doesn't have any narrowband (12.5 kHz) capabilities. You might be able to get the synthesizer to produce the correct carrier frequency, but TX and RX will be wideband only (25 kHz).

Thanks for your answer... for me was important only the ability to set the 12.5 spacing frequencies, even if the RX is really 25khz wide.

I tryed and can confirm that it's possible to set frequencies like 4xx.012.5

That's good news. Depending on the divide-by ratio, some radios would produce the frequencies and some wouldn't.

If you can put up with the receive audio being low, you can always just adjust your CG and TX deviation pots for narrow-band operation and you should sound fine on the other end.

Narrow band mods

There are narrowband kits available for some radios both mobile (base) and portable. Try com-spec and also do a search for radio narrowband kits.
