I'm looking seriously at one of these portables. Does anyone have one? If so what do you think of it. Also can it be controlled by Trunker so I can use it with a PC to monitor trunktraffic? Thanks,

Hello.

I have had one for over a year now, actually have 3 of the things.
All have been fully converted for out of band, and so do 136MHz to 176MHz, 216MHz to 259MHz and 390MHz to 480MHz on transmit.
The RX on HF is quite poor indeed, VHF and UHF is better, but the radio suffers in that area also.
It is an excellent radio for concealed carry with a 3 wire earset and short range.
The yaesu VX-7R is a better radio in most areas, except for 220MHz, where it suffer, larger size but shorter battery life.

Kenwood mods.

Hello.

The Kenwood TH-f6/7 can now be easily modded for WAY out of band.
What you do is load the entire firmware onto your computer and hack the band limits.
The radio has a built-in service mode.

The TH-f6 and TH-f7 are the same radio after run 1100, except for one diode.

The later radios have more memory and the same RF sections so the firmware now contains both radio model info.
This makes it easy, as you can see the band limit info side by side.
Be sure to read all of the warnings BEFORE you push any buttons.
Once you read the radio, be sure to make a backup of the ORIGINAL files.
You may need to send the radio in for service.
The service center might freak if you provide a radio that has been modded in the firmware.
Note: there are 2 ways to mod this radios firmware, this is by far the easy way to do this thing.
