Kenwood Radio Model?

Kenwood Radio Model?
I am a novice with Kenwood radios but have programmed the one in my car. A friend gave me Kenwood Radio he would like me to program, unfortunately there are no labels showing the model#. It looks like my Kenwood TK-730 physically with a remote head unit. I purchased a cable for the 630/73/830 models and am using a Microsoft Surface running DOSBox and KPG7D. I can put the radio into Program Mode and the display shows "PROGRAM". But when I try to read from it I get a Model miss match. How can I confirm the model number of this unit? Any guidance on troubleshooting it?
Re: Kenwood Radio Model?
Try taking off the top and bottom covers and see if you can find any
identifying numbers. There should be a yahoo group for kenwood so
if you can find any usable info inside the radio try it from that point.
That is about all i can suggest until you find out more.

Re: Kenwood Radio Model?
Thanks for the tip, I will take the covers off and see what I can find. I had a friend who is a little more familiar with these radios look at this radio and when it is powered on the display has everything lit up and none of the keys do anything. I can put it into programming mode but it won't read or write. My friend says on power up it should have something legible on the display.
Is this an indication of anything specific, or just that something is definitely wrong?

I took the covers off and I don't see any labels or identifying numbers anywhere.
Re: Kenwood Radio Model?
hard to believe there is no info plate on this radio.
there is usually one at least in the rear of the transceiver
in the heat sink area on one of the outer fins.
How about the control head face - is there no model
number on that?
at the very least take some pics and post them
on a yahoo group regarding kenwood radios
it must be a radio from another country if your
programming software can not recognize it.
lately there has been a lot of radios around
from south east asia.
