Have a KPG-46 programming cable with the 8 pin RJ-45 connector. Need it to be used with the TK-860 with the 6 pin connector.
Can I cut off the 8 pin plug and install it directly on a 6 pin one as the 6 center positions are being used on the RJ-45 one ( both outside pins are not used)?
Can the 6 pin cable then be used to program 8 pin radios as long as the RJ-11 is centered in the RJ-45 socket?
Yes to both although I have found a bench grinder will make a 8 pin connector narrower very neatly so it fits in a 6 pin socket, and also you do not lose the outside pins when you do this so if you needed it to remain 8 pin (which of course you do not in this case) it would still work.
