Post by ohgary »

Does any kenwood portable have a convertacom style mobile docking station?

You can use a KVC-8A with the TK-290 and the KVC-9A with the TK-390 radios. These are band specific and have the amplifiers incorporated into them, 35 watts for VHF and 25 watts for UHF. The 90 series portables are the only ones with an antenna connection on the accessory connector that is required for true converta-com operation.

List price for the KVC-8A/9A is $885.

I noticed on the price list that they are intending on discontinuing these in June-2008. Prob due to a lack of sales. You can buy a mobile radio for less than what the converta-com costs.
