Anyone familiar with the KGP-1A Modem GPS Receiver?

Post by d119 »

I was given a new-in-box Kenwood KGP-1A (and have access to several more if anyone wants to buy one).

Can these be configured for standard NMEA GPS data output? In other words, can I use one of these as a standalone GPS receiver connected to a PC? Anyone know?

Well,I only have the book for the KGP-2A and here is a quote:

Serial (COM) port
The KGP-2A/2B communicates to an external PC through
the ACC1 connector on the rear panel. The KGP-2A/2B has
an internal, bi-directional RS-232C/TTL voltage level converter
(IC6) that converters the signal levels between the
CPU and the ACC1 connector.

I would need the software to see if NEMA is an option.
I am sure it is an option on the -2A,but I don't have a book on the-1A to see if it is available..
but I would bet it does.
