TK730 Check Connection error

Post by KA5QWB »

I am using KPG7D program to program a dual head TK730G Kenwood. I know it has 2 banks programed currently and works. Not sure exactly which version it is. It tries to read/write but errors out stating "Check Connection". I looked for the proms but only found one in main unit that read FAA.... I've been told that only windows 98 and older operating systems will work with the KPG7D software. I'm using windows XP. Any one else had this problem

And yes I even tried different cables and "wiggling the connection".

XP limits DOS functions so that COM ports are not usable. Use a DOS boot disc or an older computer.

Just had a 830 come in the other day that read the same thing. Checked the front mic connection and it had been wet, and had corrosion at the back of well, and on the six wires. Cleaned the wires with a small pencil eraser and has worked ever since. Took the corrosion off with a fine blade Xacto knife, being very careful not to bend pins. Hope this helps others too.
