Kenwood TK-8180 Out of Band

Post by Starion »

Anyone have any experience while programming 440-450 MHz (Amateur) frequencies into a TK-8180 with a band split of 450-512MHz.
I would like to program a few frequencies in the TK-8180 and wanted to find out if there is any degradation of receive or
transmit quality for the mentioned frequencies. Thanks!

I don't think you will have a problem. I have used them down to 444.5 and can't measure any difference from "in band: frequencies.

I didn't have any need to go any lower, but others have said that it works. Your mileage may vary , depending on the VCO tuning.

One thing - the software will complain that the frequency is out of band, just tell it OK or Yes (dont remember what it wants!)

Thanks for the response. Many Kenwood models will operate without difficulty well
outside their rated frequency spread. When entering frequencies out-of-range you're
correct about the software sayings it won't take but you can over ride this. Thanks again.
